This tutorial was written by me on July 3, 2005. You may link to this site through your groups but please link to my main page first. Thanks! I used version 7 but it can be done in the later versions as well. I used the incredible artwork of Rion Vernon. Please support this talented artist by visiting his site! You must purchase a license to use his work HERE. I am assuming that you have a reasonable knowledge of PSP and working with layers.

You will need the following supplies:

Tube and font of your choice

DSB Flux

 1. Open a new transparent image 600x500. Flood fill with white to give you a better idea of what you’re working with.

 2. Copy and paste your tube as a new layer on your white canvas.

 3. Activate your shape tool, set on rounded rectangle, line width on 2.  Draw a long rectangle to the left of your tube; see finished tag for reference. Foreground is a dark color from your tube; background a color or gradient of your choice.

 4. Convert to raster layer. Go to Effects/ Geometric Effects/ Pixelate and use these settings:

 5. Effects/edge effects/enhance.

 6. Hit “control a” and “control F” on your keyboard to float the layer. Selections/modify/expand and type in 2. Layers/new raster layer and drop it one layer. Flood  fill this layer with white and give it the following drop shadow:

Vertical and Horizontal offsets at 1; opacity at 90; blur at 2; color black.

Repeat the drop shadow with the offsets at negative 1.

 7. Hide all other layers and merge the white and the tiles. Then unhide the rest.

 8. Duplicate the rounded rectangle layer twice. Use your mover tool to position the three to your liking.

 9. Hide all layers except for your rectangles and merge visible. Make a duplicate of this layer by right clicking on your layer palette. On the bottom layer ~ not the copy ~ go to Effects/Plugins/DSB flux/ Linear Transmission and use the following settings:

 10. Activate your text tool. Make sure that vector and anitalias are checked. Stretch your text so that it fits in your bottom rectangle. When satisfied, go to layers/convert to raster layer. Give it the following drop shadow:

On your layer palette, change it to “luminance.”

Add your watermark and the appropriate copyright information. Then crop your image. On to the animation!

 11. Activate your text tool. Type whatever saying you would like: I chose “welcome” …or rather Sara chose welcome hehe. Rotate to the left by 45 degrees and convert to raster layer.

 12. Go to Edit/copy merged or “shift control c” on your keyboard. Launch your animation shop and right click: paste as a new animation.

 13. Back in PSP….reduce the opacity of your diagonal text to 80. Edit/copy merged and then in animation shop “paste after current layer.”

 14. Again in PSP: reduce the opacity to 60. “Paste after current layer” in animation shop.

15. Continue reducing the opacity of your text layer in PSP by 20 degrees and pasting after current frame in animation shop until you reach 0.

 16. In ani, click on your first frame and then hit “control A”on your keyboard to select all of the frames.  Then “control C” and “control V” to paste all of the frames as a new animation.

 17. On your new animation, click on the first frame and then hit “control A” on your keyboard. Go to “animation/reverse frames.”

 18. Sorry that this is so monotonous….tis much easier to do than to write! Hit “control A” on your first frame and “control C.” Back on your first animation, on the last frame, hit “shift control L” to paste all of the frames. Scroll with your mouse on the frames until you find the frame with the diagonal text at 100 percent. Go to Animation/Frame Properties and type in 200.

 19. Go to Animation/view to see your tag in motion! I hope that you have enjoyed this tutorial. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. Thanks for stopping by!
