This tutorial was written on February 22, 2008. You may link to it through your groups and print it out for future use, but nothing, including my ideas, are to be removed from this site! I used the incredible artwork of Ted Hammond. You must purchase a license to use it; please visit CILM to do so.

You will need the following supplies:
Tube and font of your choice
Textures/papers/embellishments of your choice
Eye Candy 4000
Eye Candy impact
Penta color dot
Filters Unlimited (optional)
Heart Preset shapes SUPPLIES

1. Open a new transparent canvas, 700x600. Flood fill with white to give you a better idea of what you’re working with.

2. Copy and paste your tube as a new layer and resize as needed. Give it a drop shadow.

3. Grab your preset tool set on shape “heart 7,” line width of 4. Have your foreground set on a color from your tube, background null. I chose a deep red. Draw a large shape that best fits your tube. Objects/align/center in canvas, and then convert it to a raster layer. I mirrored my shape (control M on your keyboard).

4. Click inside of the outlines of the hearts with your magic wand set on 0 tolerance and feather, holding down the shift key to select both areas.

5. Selections/modify expand by 3 and flood fill the selection with the same color, on the same layer. Deselect.

6. Duplicate your heart shape and hide the bottom layer for now, as we will be working with it later.

7. On the top layer of your heart shape, Effects/plugins/Eye candy 4000 Gradient glow, with the following settings. On the color tab, pick “fat:”

8. Click inside of the right heart with your magic wand. Selections/modify expand by 5. Copy and paste one of your papers as a new layer, resize as needed, and drop beneath the shape. Selections/invert and hit delete on your keyboard to get rid of the excess. Deselect. (I used papers from various kits.)

9. Click inside of the left heart with your magic wand, only in one half of it (farthest to the left). Repeat the above steps with a different paper. Deselect.

10. Click inside of the left heart again, but this time in the second half (the right part of it; this is the middle paper you see in the example tag.) Repeat the above steps with another coordinating paper. Make sure that this layer of paper is above all of the others on your layer palette. Deselect. All of the inside parts of your heart should be filled.

11. Now, click inside of the outline of your heart with your magic wand, holding down the shift key to select both areas. Effects/plugins/Filters Unlimited/ Paper Textures. Choose one to suit your tag; I used Fibrous paper, coarse. If you do not have this filter, try one of the textures located under Effects/texture effects/ texture.

12. Give the heart outline the following drop shadow:

13. Move the bottom layer of your heart outline that you duplicated at the beginning of this tutorial to the very bottom of your layer palette, underneath all of your papers. Effects/Eye Candy Impact/ Extrude with the following settings; on the “solid” color tab, choose a color that is slightly lighter than the original color.

14. Effects/plugins/ penta Color dot with the following settings:

15. Give this extruded layer the following drop shadow:

16. Add any embellishments/accents that match your tag. I trust that you have enough of them to play with! I added a ribbon and some glitter to the bottom of my tag.

17. Add your text in a font of your choice. I used Lamplighter script in white. Convert to a raster layer and give it a slight drop shadow.

18. Add the appropriate copyright information and your watermark so that you both receive credit for your work. Crop your image, save as a png file, and you’re finished!

I hope that you have enjoyed this tutorial. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email me. Thanks for stopping by! Here is another example done with different papers and without the extrusion effect:
